Make Earth Day, Everyday Critical Mass Ride!

photo image_zpsc905f2c4.jpeg

I was pretty happy to make it to Firefly Brigade’s Critical Mass Ride earlier this morning, nothing like riding your bike with like-minded individuals pursuing a common goal -that is to use bikes as an alternative means of transportation and as well as reducing pollution in the metro.

photo image2_zps1a5c7c3c.jpeg

I brought out “ol’ faithful” for a spin, I was surprised that upon inspection I didn’t need to tighten or grease any parts. Having a fixed gear bike truly is a low maintenance and reliable type of bicycle. (now if only us fixed gear riders could resist the urge to replace parts every fortnight)

photo image1_zps1a93cc4f.jpeg

It was a really nice crowd, groups of riders from all over joined in and kept a steady pace while being courteous and sharing the road (somewhat) One rider noticed I was really thirsty due to the heat and offered her sports drink, talk about camaraderie!

A few Ms. Earth guest riders showed their support, all donning helmets as per policy. It was a nice ride and great way to spend an early Sunday morning. Looking forward to the bigger and more Critical Mass ride this coming November.

If you guys know me, you’d know that I like my raw denim and jackets. But for the overenthusiastic tempuratures we’ve been having lately, I figured to be practical for a change and wear something more weather appropriate.  photo I31B1529_zps9d9df2cb.jpg

Step into Wanderland!

The ultimate sonic playground for the summer

Get ready for one surreal summer experience as Karpos Multimedia Inc. proudly presents Wanderland, an annual outdoor music and arts festival with sights, sounds and a little something extra. Slated to rock music-loving Manila on May 18, 2013, this whole-day event is the first of its kind in the Philippines and will be the first major concert at the new Globe Circuit Events Ground in Makati.

Wanderland makes its scorching debut this summer by bringing together the hottest indie pop and indie rock bands and up-and-comers, both foreign and local, all on one stage. All the rage activities also await revelers, such as performances by live art artists Anjo Bolarda x Martojaks, Secret Fresh and Thursday Room, inflatable slides, jousts and a Velcro wall.

Headlining the music festival is Australian five-piece outfit The Temper Trap, best known for upbeat joyride tracks “Sweet Disposition,” “Fader” and “Need Your Love.” Composed of Dougy Mandagi (vocals), Jonathon Aherne (bass guitar), Toby Dundas (drums), Lorenzo Sillitto (lead guitar), and Joseph Greer (keyboards, guitar), The Temper Trap formed in 2005 and steadily built a solid fanbase while playing at numerous music festivals in Australia, the UK and beyond. In 2009, the band took the mainstream music scene by storm with its critically acclaimed debut album Conditions, whose ethereal carrier single “Sweet Disposition” shot up the European music charts and spawned several remixes, including the popular house version by Axwell & Dirty South. The Temper Trap went on to land two distinctions — “Best Group” for Conditions and “Most Popular Australian Single” for “Sweet Disposition” — at the 2010 ARIA Music Awards. That same year, the band broke into the US market, with “Sweet Disposition” gaining heavy radio airplay and figuring prominently in various TV shows (“Skins,” “Greek,” “One Tree Hill”), commercials and films (“500 Days of Summer,” “Eat, Pray, Love”). Conditions also spawned two more soundtrack staples: the infectious ditty “Fader” (“The Vampire Diaries”) and the easy, breezy “Love Lost” (“Pretty Little Liars”). After an extensive touring circuit, the quintet released their eponymous second album in May of 2012 by Infectious Music, which includes the lead track, “Need Your Love,” and the most recent single, “Trembling Hands.” The band enjoyed a stellar 2012, debuting the record across sell-out tours of the US, UK and Australia in March, April and May, including two sold out shows at London’s Koko. They completed a sell out US tour ahead of a run of summer festivals, including appearances at T in the Park, Wilderness and Truck Festival, and a show at Somerset House that sold out in less than 48 hours. They closed the year supporting Coldplay on their autumn stadium tour of Australia, before heading back to the UK to play Xfm’s Winter Wonderland.

Joining The Temper Trap are two American alt-rock bands: Neon Trees, who rose to popularity with certified charttoppers “Animal,” “Everybody Talks” and “1983”; and Nada Surf, who’s responsible for the ‘90s coming-of-age track “Popular,” the melancholy “Inside of Love” and its unforgettable rendition of the new wave anthem “If You Leave” from the seminal soundtrack of “The O.C.” The lineup offers more indie-pop goodness in the form of New Zealand-based folk group Avalanche City, Australian pop duo Colour Coding, and the female-fronted indie quintet from Melbourne, Tully on Tully. Homegrown talents Up Dharma Down, Taken By Cars, Pulso, Yolanda Moon, and She’s Only Sixteen round up the cast.

VIP tickets are priced at PhP 4,800 and Gold tickets are priced at PhP 3,000 (exclusive of ticket service charge), available at all TicketNet, TicketWorld and SM Tickets outlets. Gates open at 11AM.

Trip to Cancun | Video

As much as I like taking photos, editing videos is also something I really enjoy doing. So before I post an onslaught of pictures, take a look at the Cancun 2013 video I made of our trip to Mexico!

I was lucky enough to borrow a GoPro Hero 3 from my friend Abe, so expect more dynamic angles and some underwater shots! Enjoy!

Gum Health | Colgate Total

Milkshakes, ice cream, apple pies, cookies, piyaya and kid’s cereal. If you’re like me, then any mention of these delights could easily make you forget your 1. diet, 2. restraint towards sweets. I think my appreciation for sugar laden snacks started at a young age around gradeschool, with simple local staples like ice candy, icedrop, powdered orange juice, jelly candies, and the sort available to me anytime I fancied. One would think having access to the aforementioned these would curb my appetite but that was definitely not the case.

I have always been conscious of sugar intake even when I was younger, because my family had a close family friend who would always come over and complain during special occasions or gatherings that due to his being diabetic, he could not try the homemade cheesecake or leche flan even if these were his favorite desserts. Tito Gary would then extend his concern towards us, warning us to not eat too many sweets or to lessen our servings. I hardly paused at those words of caution before, yet eventually those words somehow got through, probably because of sheer repetition. But now that I am older, I am more conscious of the caloric values of these highly effective diet-busters. Getting into working out and sports makes one more aware of the effects of having sweets, learning that sometimes they can help performance and sometimes they can make you crash at the most inconvenient times.

Exercising led me to researching more about diet, fitness regimens, and the internet’s vast web of suggested and similar posts led me to learn a lot about glycemic indices and eventually about diabetes and gum health. I particularly learned that people with diabetes are twice (2x) as likely to develop serious gum problems, because having the said condition makes your body more susceptible to bacterial infection and hence have a decreased ability to fight bacteria that invade the gums. Luckily, there is a product made especially for gum health. Colgate Total Pro-Gum Health toothpaste helps reduce up to 90% of bacteria build-up that cause gingivitis, an early form of gum disease. Providing 12-hour bacteria protection even after brushing is one of the key advantages of using Colgate Total.

Make Colgate Total part of your overall diabetes management program and for overall gum health. Your gums will thank you for it, and I am sure Tito Gary will definitely approve of the extra care you take, even if you have that small serving of leche flan.

Shady Summer | Von Zipper

Von Zipper equates to skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, wee man, and basically for the more alternative and outgoing sort. The sunglasses they serve up are well designed to look good but at the same time hard wearing enough to put up with the numerous challenges the elements pose.

Extreme sports, lifestyle and a ton of personality is infused into their sunglasses which give some individuality in a sea of usuals suspects. I wear a couple of their shades simply because they fit the unfussy summer style pretty well, and are sporty enough to be tossed around and still keep on kicking. They’re perfect for music festivals and keeping the glare out of your eyes while chasing sunsets on a Malibu Wakesetter.

I also really dig these ones (Cletus) because they really give off the summer vibe with the mirrorized lenses.

Modern Casual | Perry Ellis

photo L1020562_zpsaf95f841.jpg

Dropped by the Perry Ellis store before watching Bloc Party the other week, and I have to say I really like the new stuff they have in stock. Perfect for the summer (more casual) months while still being very stylish.   photo L1020556_zpsc56f017a.jpg

This print I really liked, it’s one of those rare designs that catch your eye but in a subtle and “hey, that’s interesting” kind of way.

photo L1020555_zps9e9a688a.jpg

Refreshing orange, I regret not getting this shirt. Hopefully it’ll still be there next time I drop by!

photo L1020554_zps426c1546.jpg

The look of the store speaks city dweller but not in an uptight way, much like the brand it’s for people looking for very presentable clothes without the fussy disposable trends.
