Forever 21’s Opening at the Mall of Asia was a spectacle as was expected of director Robby Carmona (who was so busy I almost didn’t get a chance to take a photo of him) showcasing the clothes as should be with a great soundtrack for the models to strut to. Surprisingly there was also a kids segment which incited “awws” and how cute/adorable comments from the audience. The stuff for women looked very current and up to date. I liked a few of the pieces for men, which also looked very attune to the current trends of late.

Food and drinks were plentiful, from Jamba Juice to Krispy Kreme to Brownies Unlimited (classic!) I was too busy taking photos and also the show in to fully enjoy the refreshments. The atmosphere was really lively with the hundreds of onlookers on the first and second floor of the venue, magnifying the scale of the event. It struck me as a really big and fun party in the middle of MOA’s atrium.

My shopping was brief as I was rushing to another engagement that night but I’ll definitely have to come back next time to check out the selection again! Thanks F21!

same difference scents

Last night, while preparing for possible power outages due to the current storm I tested out a number of flashlights and led lamps to see how effective they were. To my surprise they fared pretty well even for other things aside from their original use, as seen in the above photos. I used two flashlights for this experiment. Seeing isolated inanimate personal effects or objects in near darkness really changes the tone of which they’re seen and received, like hazy dreamlike memories.

Here’s a tune to further set the tone by local band Bee Eyes.

Original Penguin really brought the Coney Island ‘Steez’ with this collection. Steez could mean style with ease in addition to being a word that I use out of irony or when I’m trying not to take myself to seriously when I talk of clothes and personal aesthetic. I try not to be so in depth and wordy with these things out of fear of seeming to fussy and boring myself and my readers.

I really appreciated the new look of Original Penguin that I saw, it was more about playful notoriety, youthful infamy and being carefree than the traditional preppy vein the brand was more known for. Taking influence from Coney Island in Brooklyn, the selection works as well for the surfer as it does for the more trendy urbanite. Sun drenched colors salute the nostalgic brand with the colors present in the new trunks, tanks, walking shorts, and of course their polo shirts.

Check out their facebook.

The Generic Man x Comme des Garcons SHIRT shoe and sneaker collaborations continue for Fall Winter 2012. Three models feature seafoam green touches: the Wellington suede lace-up plimsoll with grosgrain trimming sits well with the Montreux traditional sneaker. The standout from our view is the Wingman: a black leather shoe with canvas upper against an excellent seafoam vibram sole. Three very well done and unique shoe/sneaker takes from The Generic Man for CdG SHIRT. Find them this fall.

I hope these will arrive in our shores, by way of the Comme Des Garcons store at One Rockwell of course.

The search for the next K-Pop Superstar begins!

tvN, Asia’s leading Korean Entertainment Channel launches K-Pop Star Hunt Season 2 and is once again looking for the next K-POP Superstar!

Are you aspiring to be Korea’s next pop sensation? Make K-Pop Star Hunt your first step to stardom! With the success of its first season – attracting more than 50 million viewers across Asia – K-Pop Star Hunt is set to make its triumphant comeback for a second season.

Through K-Pop Star Hunt (Season 2), talents across Asia will have the incredible opportunity to make K-Pop miracles of their own. Aspirants from the Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Japan will be given the opportunity to battle it out to become the next K-Pop superstar.

Each country will be selecting the most outstanding contestants from each territory for preliminary auditions. After the contestants’ heated battles, the survivors will be flown to Seoul to receive professional training and compete for the final showdown in Korea!

The finalists’ ups and downs on the road to success will be captured and shown on the reality series on tvN. What’s more is that several popular K-POP stars will be featured every week. They will be mentoring the contestants, performing in the show, and even taking the judging roles.

The winner of the contest will receive an intensive vocal training along with an album release. The winning star will also get a chance to make a debut stage appearance on 2013 MAMA, the leading international music awards show in Korea.

Last year, K-Pop Star Hunt (Season 1) winner Thai-native Sorn bagged an exclusive contract with South Korea’s top record label Cube Entertainment, home to A-list pop groups BEAST, 4Minute and female artist G.NA. Thanks to the reality series, Sorn has soared to stardom and has moved to Seoul for her debut album training.

To audition, all you need to do is bring out your cam and star filming. Upload your best K-POP sing-and-dance routines to K-Pop Star Hunt’s official website at www.tvnstarhunt2.com . Submission of entries ends on September.
