TWG Tea Company | A Visit

Singaporean Tea Company TWG recently opened their first Tea Salon in the country, drawing a number of people to grace the event. Those in attendance, including myself were educated on how many teas the company has and which goes well with which macaroon, time of day, and personal preference.

Delicious! Best enjoyed with… friends of course. Which tea though would have to be dependent on your palate.

The 1837 in the TWG logo signifies the year in which the Singapore Chamber of Commerce was created, a credit to trade and industry. The lady assisting me had a slightly different take on the story, but overall same gist. Hers was more to the tune of the opening of trade ports that year.

I’m a little teapot…

The labels alone on the tins were enticing enough to pick one up, open and grab a whiff of the tea. Then, an inquisitive look with matching “hmmmm” would do to complete the tea connoisseur act. My favorites would have to be their Gentleman’s Earl Grey, which is a black tea with some bergamot to give a citrusy, refreshing shine to it. (as is usual with Earl Grey teas) I also like their Silver Moon tea, which is a green tea with vanilla and fruity notes which supposedly go very well with mooncake. I should give that a try sometime!

All 800 of them, they mean it when they mean the finest teas! The interiors of the place really make you want to stay what with all the wood paneling and brass fitting and details.

Unfortunately, the violinist wasn’t to keen on taking requests.

When you’re in the Greenbelt area, drop by their shop for your share of tea and crumpets. They have breakfast, lunch and dinner specialties which boast the use of fine and noble ingredients. It’s a good spot to relax, and converse in a more old fashioned, personal way. It’s been pretty full lately though, so here’s a tip, try to arrive a little earlier than you intend to take your tea so by the time you’ve browsed through their selection your table will be ready.
