Berocca threw a really great party at Bonifacio Global City a few days back, reiterating the fact that one can really be on full blast despite hectic schedules with their delicious orange/citrussy effervescent tablet packed with B-vitamins + vitamin C + zinc amongst others. A slew of DJs took the crowd from relaxed cocktails to getting everyone pumped with their own brand of top 40 mixes and hip-hop mashups.
Everybody looked fresh and ready to hit the dance floor.

"Trust me and do what I say, I’m with the Party Crew - DJ Tina Ryan"
Yehehes! Moment ni DJ Tonytoni!
One year free Berocca! Super envious!
The quartet one by one explaining why the ladies should go for them, kidding they were just talking about game mechanics!
Divine, super competitive!
Smiles all around!
What a night! Pretty epic, and I love how the whole LED installation at Hyve was set to green to match the party host. Congratulations to Berocca Performance for a job well done, hassle free entrance into the club plus free-flowing drinks and refreshments. I feel kind of bad that this is the last of their party series, looking forward to next set! Complete attendance ako jan sigurado! Haha!
I consider myself extremely lucky to have an occupation that affords and at the same time requires me to sometimes go off to far-flung places that offer a great change of scenery from the usual cityscape of Manila. Long, contemplative “road trips” that perfectly match the music of Bon Iver, The Decemberists and the new Devendra album.
En route to Subic via SCTEx.
HUD (Heads Up Display) to monitor speed.
Motorcades to thank supportive fans and viewers of My Husband’s Lover
While sometimes it’s back to the daily traffic grind.
That’s why it’s no surprise that sometimes I oftentimes get jolted by intrusive “low fuel” protestation beeps from my trusty whip. Limited cruising distance has once again instantly turned the freedom ride into a fight to get to the nearest gas station.
In your mind you’re thinking, "Gas-tos nanaman" then you remember that you still have Globe Rewards points which can be used to at least extend your joyride. Text “BAL” to 4438 and voila! Points available reports, 1 point = 1.00 Php!
Like a desert mirage, a Petron magically appears! Time to gas up!
The whole process can be all done from the comfort of your car, but I like being hands-on and making sure the right fuel is loaded into the gas tank of my car. Not to mention giving you, my readers a firsthand experience of how easy using Globe Rewards really is.
Text “Buy 0917XXXXXXX(cashier #) <AMOUNT>” and send to 4438. Ex: Buy 0917XXXXXXX 2000.
Wait for the confirmation receipt. Then voila! Show the text to an authorised person in the forecourt in order to confirm your purchase and fill up aforementioned empty fuel tank.
Unleaded fuel! Take note! Loading one’s car with the wrong fuel type such as Diesel into a Gasoline car and vice versa can be time-consuming and catastrophic.
Choose which fuel, it’s all about preference. I went with Petron XCS which is 95 Octane fuel.
$$$$ buti nalang points!
Cue 1960s lounge music.
While thinking of what pasalubong you can buy your significant other (or loved ones) with the money saved from this gas up.
There’s the magic number!
One other form to sign to seal the deal, grab your receipt, and you’re good to go! Road trip na!
I still couldn’t believe it, such a practical and awesome deal!
Almost a full tank! Pretty sweet! I actually saved my Globe Rewards points so I could get use it on other stuff like movie tickets (Ayala Cinemas) and Figaro coffee! If you don’t have enough points for the whole purchase, you can always top-up using real dinero.
Panalo! You can even share Globe Rewards Points! Check out essential information below!

I’ve been very curious about the Fujifilm Instax Neo Classic considering it’s aesthetic appeal and instantly gratifying experience of having an actual physical photo which you can treasure or gift to someone as opposed to a digital copy that has such a slim chance of being printed considering the prolific use of smartphones, and social media sharing nowadays. The sense of permanency one gets from using the camera is nostalgic and endearing, keeping treasured memories in a flash.
I also eventually appreciated the slower pace of photography since having a limited amount of Instax film meant that I had to think of my shots more and upon realization that I was using a legit film camera also made my subjects really appreciative of being in the photos! (although rivalry on who gets the group photo can get pretty fierce) When shooting a big group, best to take two or more photos to give out. Which leads me to how having an actual physical photo come out of your new Instax Neo Classic camera is great at parties, it’s a conversation starter, the design really turns heads, and easily just makes people smile.
The capable camera has so many new features, such as double exposure, “party” mode, Bulb, macro, kids (for fast moving subjects ie: makulit) landscape and flash on/off mode. I also particularly liked that the new camera also has a threaded hole to place it on a tripod (as seen above) or similar mounts to give you really unique angles and photos!
Anyway, here’s what I shot with it! Enjoy!
Had so much fun with the Instax Neo Classic! For those interested, the retail price is Php 8,980 and is available at most leading camera stores in the Metro.
Not to spoil anything for anyone planning to watch the movie, but I am just very excited to be part of such a monumental film. I brought along my camera as waiting is a pre-requisite of an actor’s job, and figured I could snap up some interesting images given the uniqueness and remoteness of our location. I play a priest by the way, which is very much close to my real personality I think :D Enjoy the photos, and hope everyone gets to catch Pedro Calungsod : Batang Martir when it comes out!
Hey everyone! I am giving away tickets to the hottest concert party yet care of SM Accessories! Just to get you hyped up, check out the press release below!
“Beautiful World”, “Sweet Things”, “Elements of Life”, “I Will Be Here”, “Silence”, “Work Hard Play Hard” and “We Own the Night”. These are just some of the world-smash hits created by Grammy Nominee, legendary Dutch musician and record producer of Electronic Dance Music, and world – renowned professional DJ, Tiesto.
Tijs Michiel Verwest, more popularly known as Tiesto, began his DJ career by playing mostly New Beat and House Music in small clubs in his hometown in Breda, Netherlands. Tiesto then rose to popularity in the early 2000s after his performance at the Live at Innercity: Amsterdam RAI party, and the release of his first solo album entitled In My Memory. Since then, the Dutch musician has been making and producing award-winning Electronic Dance Music (EDM) hits and albums, holding concert tours and parties all over the world, and receiving countless recognition for his music. One of Tiesto’s albums, Elements of Life, took the number one spot on the Dutch album chart and on Billboard Top Electronic Albums in the US, and was awarded Best Electronic Dance Album in 2008. One of Tiesto’s most notable performances, on the other hand, was at the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, making him the very first DJ to play live on stage at an Olympic event. The legendary EDM record producer was also the very first DJ to rank #1 in the Top 100 DJs list by DJ Magazine for 3 consecutive years. He also received the Best International DJ award in 2008 at the DJ Awards, and earned other titles such as The #1 DJ of 2008 and The Best DJ of All Time, both given by Mixmag magazine; The 40th Greatest Dutch Citizen of All Time and Officer of the Order of Orange – Nassau by the Dutch Royalty in 2003; and International Dance4Life Ambassador in 2006.
With a well-proven track record, there’s no doubt that Tiesto is one of most sought-after EDM DJs in the world. In fact, in the Philippines alone, Tiesto has played his tracks in front of his fans – the country’s hottest clubbers, EDM enthusiasts and personalities in two of the biggest and hippest dance arenas last 2008 and 2009. On October 3, 2013, Tiesto will be coming back to Manila for his very first concert party at the Big Dome as World Wide Womb, Ovation Productions, Driven Manila, and Republiq present Tiesto Live in Manila, with the fastest-rising, most exciting female Australian DJ, Tigerlily as special guest.

Set out to check out Wrong Ramen after online hype about mixing two unlikely dishes could no longer be ignored. It’s like a loveteam doomed to fail, but somehow curiosity gets the better of people. Tried it out out with Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Yu, who were there a few minutes earlier than me chinese time nga naman. We opted for merienda, so unforunately the restaurant could only serve the re-creations as take-out since it was an odd hour/management meeting (details murky) Anyway, we finally situated ourselves outside in a nearby restaurant and ordered some drinks and dessert (slow hours for them too, so they didn’t charge us corkage/burger-age)
The ramen burger was… different. I liked the packaging, cheeky waitstub (as seen above) and the general size of it. But I feel it lacked the malinamnamness I expected from a dish so many people lined up for. Still, it was good, it needed some texture but I appreciated the jap mayo dressing. Like my friend Ryan Sison said, the burger patty was a bit underseasoned which I agree with. Maybe I was expecting something a little bit more savoury and toe-curling as opposed to the mildly flavoured, lukewarm ramen burger I was served. I want to go back and try it again, will give it a second chance because to be honest I sortakinda liked it. A side of fries would’ve sorted out the texture issue for me and added some needed saltiness into the mix. Wrong Ramen, I’ll definitely be back for the ramen, not too sure about the burger though.
LIFTING lighter weights builds muscle endurance. NELSON MATAWARAN
In GMA 7’s homosexual-themed teleserye “My Husband’s Lover,” model-actor Victor Basa plays David, a chef and ex-lover of Vincent (Tom Rodriguez). He is buff, as vain gays are wont to be.
Standing almost 5’11, Basa weighs some 170 lbs, thanks to a diet of brown and red rice and weight-resistance training. He taught himself how to pump iron in the correct form for health and aesthetic reasons.
“I don’t want to look like a bodybuilder. Once, I got so bulky that somebody said I looked like a bouncer,” he says.
Then again, he loves to eat, and names his favorite restaurants—Aysee Sisig in Pasig, Som’s, El Cirkulo, Jozu Kin in Burgos Circle and Barrio Fiesta for bulalo steak, which he also cooks at home. The pleasures of life once took their toll. One day, he couldn’t fit into his jeans that he ended up wearing shorts every day.
BASA’S philosophy: Gain more muscle and strength without injuring one’s self
He then made his own weight-training program and eschewed white rice. He does his own split program at Gold’s Gym at Robinsons Galleria.
“I prefer working out at the gym. As males, we are competitive creatures, so we thrive in a competitive atmosphere,” he says.
Asked how he lost the excess fat and bulked up, Basa cites the benefits of pyramid training, which builds an intense workout as the muscles become overloaded. When the muscles are given weight that they are not accustomed to, they react physiologically to adapt to the stress, thus the increased muscle size or power.
The pyramid program either increases the weights while decreasing the repetitions or decreases the weights while increasing the repetitions or a combination of both. After warming up on a stationary bike, Basa executes push-ups and lifts a light weight to warm up the body and gird him for eventual heavier lifts.
PULL-UPS using body weight as the ultimate test of strength.
Basa says he creates his program according to how his muscles feel, or until muscles get exhausted from lifting the heavy load. He can lift 200 lbs in a bench press while maintaining the form. However, he doesn’t really overload himself.
He favors lighter weights to build muscle endurance. More repetitions mean more calories burned in a session, compared to lifting heavier weights with fewer repetitions.
Occasionally, he’ll do a selfie to see any improvements on his body mass. “There are calipers and tests to determine the ratio of fat to muscle. Nothing will tell the truth better than the mirror,” says Basa. Or in his case, his photographs.
The results: a 39-inch chest, a 30-inch waistline and bulging biceps.
“I was bulking up but not the right way. I enjoy food. Since my workouts this summer, my trips to the restaurants have decreased. My wallet thanked me for that,” he says. Basa reads online magazines such as Men’s Health and Men’s Fitness, but ignores the training forums. “It’s called ‘bro science.’ Everybody is different. The advice that works for one person will be different for another. These forums are not filtered. I trust the magazines.”
WARMING up on the stationary bike.
For his diet, he eats oatmeal for breakfast. His household serves brown and red rice for their health benefits. The antioxidants lower cholesterol and blood sugar, and fight free radicals.
With the brown rice, he serves stir-fried broccoli and grilled chicken breast. Basa says he learned how to cook when he stayed in Singapore for a modeling assignment. He picked up cooking tips and recipes from his foreign flatmates. At night, Basa doesn’t deprive himself of his favorite dishes, such as crispy pata.
Off-camera, Basa does podcasts on geeknights or posts on his blog, victorbasa.net. Still, Basa says he’s found his venue for self-expression. “I’ve tried telling a story through music and writing. But I found it in acting.”
For him, the ultimate wellness program is to take a week off from the computer and even social media. Still, Basa acknowledges their influence, especially on his media career.
“In ‘My Husband’s Lover,’ we were surprised by the reaction. We were trending for 27 days on Twitter. That’s a lot of clamor for the TV show.”

I love the beach, I mean, I really enjoy the sun, sand and the ocean breeze and taking photos of something other than cityscapes and urban staples. I wasn’t sure though if I would be able to squeeze in a trip to Boracay considering the hectic schedule as of late. But lady luck shined pretty bright on this sun-starved individual and I was off to the famed island care of Berocca Performance!
Rainbow as seen from the top, always a good sign!
How’s that for a powdery white sand and turquoise blue water greeting? I’m super lucky to have been able to join the Berocca in Boracay challenge!
Forget something? Your shades? No worries, as there are a number of vendors peddling entry-level eye protection! I forgot my sunglasses in my excitement so I copped a pair!
First stop was in Station 3! Spotted these two crazies, Sanya Smith and Kim Marvilla (who interestingly enough, I’ve known since my ice hockey days!) They were completing challenges too! Pero, picture muna!
The “On Full Blast” tat guy! We had to take a photo of him for one of the challenges! After taking photos of certain tasks, contestants had to instagram and tweet their progress.
Did somebody say shots? Berocca shots! (intermixed with an orange alcohol shot) Had to guess which one was the Berocca one by drinking your choice! I think I got it on my third try haha! I must say I really like the taste and love how it has no caffeine, sugar or artificial stimulants.
Next was the riddle/math problem. Good thing I’m pretty decent at multiplying, dividing, adding and subtracting and their respective orders so this one was a cinch. But honestly, I did hear the answer before I could compute due to my excellent eavesdropping skills. (wasn’t on purpose though!)
Assembling the kite and checking the wind, which took a little longer than expected!
Finally got the kite to fly! No, I am not gangnam-ing. Or am I? That’s Jim in the background.
The Berocca Paraw! I barely got a shot of it since it was going so fast! Pati ba yung paraw on full blast din? Completing 9 challenges is tough! Okay. I’ll be honest and admit I missed a few but only because I had so many electronics on hand that I was wary of having new (non)waterproof cameras and cellphones haha.
Sunset by Willy’s Rock before heading to the hotel to freshen up for the party, everybody had their cameras out and were snapping pictures of this amazing sight.
Nestey (who is also a member of the Geek Army, he regularly watches our tech podcast GeekyNights) won the Berocca race! He was sporting a new haircut as well to celebrate his victory!
Here’s Nestey hanging out with Saab, Sanya and Kim. New phone, thrill of winning, plus partying in one of the most beautiful islands of the Philippines. What more can you ask for?
Super gracious and grateful, he was so stoked that his efforts really paid off. Now you can relax! Party na!
Going home, that was such a fun trip. You really realize how many things you can do in a day when you’re game and on full blast with a glass of Berocca. Thanks Berocca for flying me in and I hope kasali uli ako next year!
Thank you also to Discovery Shores for our awesome accommodations in Boracay! (official hotel sponsor)

Lapo Elkann, the New York born Italian’s name in 1977’s name is synonymous with sports cars, bespoke suits with a little more flair than usual, beautiful women and camouflage transportation. The impulsive, never surrender’d tattooed individual is also the designer behind the innovative brand Italia Independent which strikes me as a sort of extension to his massive closet, and creative impulses.
It doesn’t surprise me that when the fast living Fiat heir rests his hat, he prefers a contrast to the busyness and excess he deals with from day to day.
The open plan devoid of any structure illicits a calm and direct approach to the hideaway.
Designed by French architect, Florent Lasdesaulnier, it is a sober yet personality rich structure that will indeed impress Italian entrepreneur Lapo Elkann’s distinctive taste.
The structure’s ability to take on different skins intrigued me, but figured it was expected that camouflage would be the first choice.
Quote from Designboom:
"The mixing of disciplines, materials and colours are his trademark. a global artist, pressed for time, driven, anxious to understand, to assemble, to visit
and revisit products, places and spaces. his creative energy is even expressed through his look. all of it seemed so familiar without my knowing why. my reaction was not so much fascination but rather curiosity, and once i reached the end of the interview, the project was fixed. it was incredible. a first time experience.’
